Happy Memorial Day!

We celebrated with a BBQ at Christa and Joel's House...check out my new shirt, it has my name on it!
This was probably the last time we will all hang out before everybody leaves for the summer...next time the group will be whole again will be August at the earliest!

Lesson learned from the weekend: parking against traffic is illegal...I got a nice $50 ticket for doing that in front of my own house!

Good news: We filled out a application for a new house today...we are officially out of the Skunk Hole August 1!!!

Ground Zero!

Friday night we stayed in NYC. Our hotel was right across from Ground Zero.
This is looking out our window down into the site.
This was the flag flying on 9/11, the hotel was able to save it admist the madness.
This is Ground Zero from the street...it is huge!
Ground Zero without the bars...wow!
New York, New York...the city that never sleeps!!!

Friday night was a late one...this is the subway trip to dinner...mind you at 11pm!
That means that I sat down for dinner at midnight...yes, I was awake and eating dinner at 12am!!!
This is after dinner at 2am...yes I am still alive...and amazingly, smiling!
And these are all the cabs out and about at 2am...seriously, when do these people sleep?!
Officially a Doctor!!!

Monday morning Bethie got "hooded" and took her Osteopathic oath. She is officially Dr. Beth Johnson now!
She looks so official with her funny hat and hood!

The Big Apple!!!

Looks a bit like SoCal right? Actually this is Beth's view on Long Island as she came to pick me up at the airport because...
a truck got stuck under the overpass! There is a reason trucks are not allowed on the parkway, appearantly this guy learned that the hard way!
Last night Beth's class had a dinner/dance at a swanky hotel in Garden City...each room got these cool robes to use.
They were a bit big though! Beth looked like an E-wok (from Star Wars) in hers!
I was having a good hairday!
So was Beth! I must admit, we are pretty darn cute together!
The dance was pretty fun. I think I may have been the only totally sober person there, Beth came in a close second with a glass or two of wine...the med students had been waiting four years to let loose I guess!
Today we went shopping at Century 21. It is like TJ Max but more upscale. This is a nice Valentino outfit Beth was thinking about buying. The original price tags were $2000 for each thing...that's more than I earn some months!

(Don't worry, she wasn't really thinking about buying it. I just wanted to get a picture with her and some ugly "designer" clothes...whoever designed this should be put out of a job!)

When you have bad landlords...

they take away your washer and dryer...yes it is legal but not very nice! Mandy and I had the joy of bonding over 7 loads of laundry last night at the laudry mat.

Off to NYC tomorrow...Beth is graduating from Med School this weekend!!!

Welcome Home!
So, my welcome home present is the return of the skunk that lives under our house. We think there are babies down there now...and the house smells like skunk tonight! Yuck!
After trying to force the skunk out with vinegar Mary and Mandy put on quite the concert for us.
This was about the tenth try at trying to take a picture of ourselves...I love my girls! :)
Joey Fully Loaded: The drive home to CO

As you can see, Joey was packed full between my bikes and clothes...I was there for 11 weeks!
This was the first highlight of the drive, crossing into Arizona...though I was still in the desert once I crossed over. It was hot and boring!
Highlight #2: Joey turned 50,000 miles! I bought him just over 44,000 barely three months ago!
I did not get the state sign for New Mexico, NM is not an exciting place to get to though. This is my favorite town in the state, Wagon Mound. Who would name their town "Wagon Mound?" It's close to the border though, so it is exciting to see on the way home!
And finally, the CO state border!!!
I made sure to make it home for Mandy's birthday. I was a suprise, she did not know I would be home...nobody did! :)
Home at last! Me, Anne and Mary....notice Pikes Peak behind us!

Barrio Logan Grand Prix, CA State Criterium Championships!

When they say "barrio" they are not lying! We were only 10 miles north of Mexico, definitely not a place I would go on my own!
Though it was a great race! The course was a fast figure 8 with a good uphill stretch into two quick 90's and 150m finish. The field was super big today because it was for the State title...technically I should not have been in the race, oh well!
From the gun it was fast and furious! Though no breaks got away, there was a strong headwind down the back stretch...which meant tailwind on the finishing straight.
Definitely the fastest race I have done in awhile...Superweek fast no joke!
And of course, being in the Cat 3 field, crashes were bound to happen! I avoided one major one where a girl flipped over her bike trying to pedal through a turn...
and then before the final turn a girl dropped her chain right in front of me. I had to wait and see where she was going to go, lost a bit of time there and came in 10th. But hey, I have been top 10 for the past 6 weeks straight...though I am STILL five points away from my upgrade!

Tomorrow is the big day, I start my drive home to CO...17 hours in the car!!!

May Gray is No Joke!!!
So, locals affectionately call the next two months: May Gray and June Gloom...now I know why!
Even the famous flower fields can't beat out the high clouds hanging over all day...these clouds better head out soon since this is my last week in CA!

The Journey Home...
So today was the flight home...six plane hours!!! I was lucky enough to get a window seat right next to a huge man from D.C. to San Diego, like we are talking three times my size and spilling over onto me. Needless to say I did not move for five hours because I literally had nowhere to go!
Though I did finish up the hat I have been working on...I am pretty talented, eh? :)
